Small footed Guan style craquelé bowl – China, Ming or Qing dynasty, ca. 17th century

Small footed Guan style craquelé bowl – China, Ming or Qing dynasty, ca. 17th century

Height: 6,3 cm
Diameter: 9,5 cm

Stoneware, glazed several times, fired several times. The elegant, multi-fitted, broken chalice shape merges seamlessly into the short, slender foot, which swings out towards the narrow base ring. With the exception of the base ring, which shows the discoloured body, the vessel is glazed all over. The multi-layered glaze with multi-coloured craquelure stitches roughly reveals the stresses in the body resulting from the deformation of the rotational figure.
