Ge style craquelé Cong vase – China, Song/Yuan dynasty, 12th–14th century

Ge style craquelé Cong vase – China, Song/Yuan dynasty, 12th–14th century

Height: 19,5 cm

This vessel type dates back to the ritual bronzes of this form. They were later made of jade due to their attractive shape, and then also of earthenware, refined with various glazes. With solid-colored celadon in jade-green tones. And, depending on the taste of the respective era, also with glazes of other colors, sometimes in multiple layers of glaze, resulting in multicolored craqueluré (secondary cracks) and sometimes uncolored craquelure.

The vase impresses with its elegant shape with soft contours and its soft color harmony of matte gray-green celadon glaze with gold-wire-colored and equally uniform dark gray craquelure, which becomes denser towards the vase mouth.
